Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Highlights

The ASCE Group Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Plan has been designed to take over when your basic health insurance runs short, because even if your plan has a large lifetime maximum benefit, often there is a yearly maximum benefit. To cover yourself and your family against large medical expenses, you may need the ASCE Group Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Plan, which can pay up to $2,000,000 while insured.

This Plan provides coverage for medical costs due to a non-job-related accidental injury or sickness that exceeds the limits of many basic health insurance plans. This insurance includes Convalescent Home and Home Health Care Benefits, which are not fully covered by many health insurance policies or Medicare.

Don’t wait until a major medical expense comes into play! For complete information about the ASCE Group Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance Plan, click on "Forms" to view the full brochure. Catastrophe Major Medical Insurance FAQ

How does this plan work?

This Plan is designed to help provide financial protection for extraordinary medical expenses not covered by your current medical insurance plan, or Medicare.

Once your eligible medical expenses reach your selected deductible (or the amount paid by your basic health insurance, Medicare, a Medicare Supplement Plan, or out-of-pocket, if higher) this plan will begin to pay up to 100% of all eligible, reasonable, and customary expenses for hospital, medical, surgical, or convalescent care, to a maximum of $2,000,000 in benefits (NY residents: up to $1,000,000), for up to five years (NY residents: three years) from the date the first expense used to satisfy the deductible is incurred.

Who is eligible?

All members in good standing who are U.S. residents are eligible to apply for member or spouse coverage, regardless of age, as well as their unmarried dependent children under age 21 (age 27 if full-time student) [New York residents: dependents under 19 (25 if full-time student)], provided each applicant is covered by a basic major medical plan (including an HMO or PPO) or Medicare parts A and B.

BASIC PLAN means a plan which provides benefits or services on a primary basis for, or by reason of, hospital, surgical or medical care or treatment. The plan must provide benefits at least as great as the following:
  • semi-private room and board for 70 days;
  • $10,000 for extra services other than room and board;
  • $25,000 for physicians services; and
  • a lifetime maximum benefit of $1,000,000

What deductibles are available?

To complement most basic medical insurance plans and to help keep this plan's premium cost as economical as possible, you have your choice of two plan deductibles: $25,000 or $50,000 (NY residents: $35,000 or $50,000).

What if I have second thoughts after I apply?

You will have 30 days from the date of receipt to review the insurance certificate. If you are not satisfied with the terms of the certificate, simply return it to the Pearl Insurance, Administrator and any premiums paid will be refunded in full.
